Welcome

Welcome to the Website of St Paul’s Anglican Church, West Tamworth.

St Paul’s is a church that is passionate about three things:

  1. Loving God – We love God because he first loved us and gave his Son, the Lord Jesus to die in our place as our substitute for our sins.
  1. Loving His Word – We love God’s Word, we love hearing it read, and we love hearing it explained. The reason is that God’s Word reveals to us the way of salvation in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ and teaches us, corrects us and trains us in righteousness so that we will be competent to live God’s way.
  1. Loving People – We love people because God does. We strive to love others with the same love that God has shown us in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you want to get more involved or plugged in to what’s going on at St Paul’s, the best place to start is to join us at one of our services. Come and introduce yourself to us, we’d love to meet you. We hope that during your visit you will see that we are a church that loves God, loves his Word and loves people and  that you will come away encouraged to do the same.

    BILLY GRAHAM

Few people in the developed 'western' world, and not many outside that world, have not heard of Billy Graham. Few, if any names of the past 100 years, are better known across all continents and all cultural boundaries, than Billy Graham. Known as the 20th centuries greatest Christian evangelist, and often referred to as the 'Pastor of America', Billy Graham has died at the age of 99.

What an extraordinary ministry God gave to this, in many ways, quite ordinary man. Over a lifetime of worldwide crusades, outreach meetings, conferences, huge outdoor rallies and street preaching, Billy spoke to literally hundreds and hundreds of millions of people. His preaching, on one level, one might say was quite 'average'. He was certainly not one for telling lots of anecdotes or entertaining stories. Though he was a charismatic presence in the pulpit, he was not big on being funny or telling jokes, although his sermons weren't at all without humour. He was not a 'showman' or entertainer - he was simply a gospel preacher. Peoples across the world found him utterly compelling and hung on his every word. Millions were 'cut to the heart' by his messages. They heard God's voice. They saw oh so clearly that they were under God's judgment of sin, death, and hell, and they turned to Jesus Christ to save them. He was friend and confidante to more than half a dozen U.S Presidents, though sadly, only one or two actually listened to him.

Billy Graham's impact in Australia was, I think, without peer. His meetings in 1959 saw hundreds or thousands flock to venues around the country. The event in Melbourne was held at the MCG and attracted a crowd of over 130 000 people. That crowd is still easily the biggest ever seen at the MCG and is likely to forever hold that record. Many of Australia's most prominent and significant Christian leaders of the last 50 years, including many bishops, archbishops, evangelists, pastors, and leaders of whole denominations, were converted under Billy Graham's ministry, especially during his 1959 visit, but also in subsequent visits to our country.

In an era where many flashy, popular, and seemingly more 'powerful' preachers, churches, and Christian movements appeared, Billy Graham and the evangelistic organisation he founded has outlasted them all. While other leaders either fell into moral failure, became corrupted by the love of money, or were consumed by conflict and controversy, Billy stood above them all. His private life matched his preaching. Though many tried, no one was able to bring him down.

Thanks be to God the Father for sending this man among us and for his life and preaching. I won't say well done good and faithful servant for those words are God's alone to utter, but surely, outside of Jesus and his apostles, few men in history have been the face of Christianity more than Billy Graham.
