Reflections on Uganda COVID-19 from Sharon Kirk

Dear Fellow Workers

Here’s the latest from NKD Uganda. The video goes for 4 minutes and talk about the ministry workers support package and the library books arriving.

Talking points:

  • Services are still closed in Uganda, and no other support is available for ministry workers
  • Clergy and lay readers are growing as much as their own food as possible, and have received some of the maize flour and beans we provided earlier in the year.
  • Regarding the Library, 4700 books were sent in 72 boxes.
  • Govt legislation on imports changed while the books were at sea, so they sat on the docks in Mombassa for a while, then in Kampala while customs were being sorted out. Up until now no extra fees have been sent to us and the books have arrived, so we are praying and assuming it was all sorted out. We suspect also that some officials were also holding the books for a bribe as paperwork and emails were ‘lost’. Brian M was able to contact fairly high up officials to expedite the process without bribes all the while navigating COVID travel restrictions.
  • Margie and Andrew Newman have been instrumental in organising the library under the direction of Brian M.

Please show it in your services if you can.
